D. J. Cole has served as chairman since 2018; he retired as chief executive officer in April 2020. D. J.’s career included more than 35 years of leadership, operational and financial positions, but his legacy will be his ability to connect strategy, numbers and people to achieve successful results for his teams and the clients and shareholders they served.
During D. J.’s tenure as CEO, the company achieved tremendous growth in the number of communities and households served, along with record levels of client satisfaction and retention. CCMC also expanded the number of regional offices from three to nine, launched its HomeWorks charitable giving program and implemented a bonus plan covering all full-time and part-time employees companywide.
D. J. joined CCMC in 2007 as chief financial officer and president of Shared Services and served as chief operating officer in 2013. Before joining CCMC, D. J. served as chief financial officer of Cold Stone Creamery, the fastest-growing ice cream concept in the United States, where he built and led the in-house finance, accounting and information technology teams during the company’s significant growth from 900 U. S. locations to 1,450 locations around the world. He also served five years as chief financial officer and vice president of administration for AG Communication Systems, a developer and manufacturer of advanced products for telecommunications service providers
D. J. earned an MBA in financial management and business policy from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a degree in accountancy from the University of Notre Dame. He spent three years in the audit practice of Arthur Andersen and holds a CPA certificate. D. J. is a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), a multidisciplinary real estate forum for industry leaders and policy makers dedicated to creating better places for people and serves on the board of Catholic Education Arizona.
